DENA KAPLAN
Life started for me in South Africa in 1989. I began dancing at age 3. My family and I moved to Australia when I was 7 years old. When I was 12, I began training at the Australian Ballet School. I studied classical ballet there for 3 years and then realized my dream was not about being a ballerina. I fell in love with some other things, Bob Fosse's dance inspired me to move towards stylized Jazz, and my love for RnB and hip hop music led me to Hip Hop. I have always continued with my classical training, and still do. I began singing and I started attending classes in as many styles of dance that I could find, not wanting to limit myself to any one style. I have always felt that Australia is a little bit behind in terms of the newest dance styles. That is why I tried to attend as many workshops and classes given by the best instructors and teachers from all over the world. Attending the SOURCE DANCE conventions inspired me even more. SOURCEDANCE's teachers such as Tabitha and Napoleon, Glenn Packard and the beautiful Tovaris Wilson (to name but a few) showed me what dancing is and can be, if you push the limits. It made me realize how much I loved to learn and wanted to be challenged!

I won a few of the scholarships from SOURCE DANCE and HIP HOP ALL-STARS and then in 2005 I won the title of ADI. I am currently 17years old and have spent the past 18months working on the Disney Musical "The Lion King¨. I perform 8 shows a week as a singer and dancer. I love it! I have been working with this incredible multi-talented cast for over a year, touring Sydney, Melbourne and now am in Shanghai doing the show. I know I have a long way to go and a lot more to learn but this is what I live for! So I¡¦m up for anything! My dreams for the future are big.. (As Glenn says "Dream Big¨). I have saved up my money and I am going to make a difference in the dance world. I would love to attend a school like Alvin Ailey or train at the wonderful EDGE. I want to land an agent like MSA and just do what I do. Learn, Choreograph, Dance and Perform!
